Welcome to Open Assembly, a digital platform started by the Calarts MA in Aesthetics and Politics Program. It is a traditional blogging platform we are using as part of our larger experimentation with digital tools. The goal is to unlock modes of scholarship unique to the affordances of the digital, which in turn guides forms of thinking only possible online. As such, we look forward to hosting a variety of content by students, faculty, visiting scholars, alumni, and wider community.
Much of the content will focus on our public program, the West Hollywood Aesthetics and Politics lecture series (WHAP!), which we launched in 2011 with the City of West Hollywood as co-host. The series lineup ranges from political debates to film screenings and performances, as well as conversations about art, architecture and philosophy. Most events will take place either in the Council Chambers (street level) or in the Communit Room (upstairs) at the West Hollywood library, located on 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard, West Hollywood, CA 90069. All events are free and open to the public.
Open Assembly website was recently redesigned by our alumni Maisa Imamović, in collaboration with Andrea Fontenot.
